Dog Herder

Today we had our next doctors appointment and everything went well. The glucose test for Allison came back good and she doesn't have to change her diet or anything. Now she is really ready for the holidays.

Over the weekend we bought a mattress for the crib, we now have all of our furniture except for the bookcase, which we are still trying to decide what is best for the room. Kevin and Brooke have a good bookcase that we like, but we think a similar one might wind up being to long. Also, our next step is finding a good ceiling fan. We saw one at Nebraska Furniture Mart that we really like, now it's a matter of if it's the right one and when we plan on getting. Apparently ordering the extender could take up to 5 weeks.

Every morning before I leave for work, I have to chase Marcus around the dining room table and sometimes even the living room just to get him put up in his kennel for the day. Needless to say, he doesn't enjoy the kennel too much. On Monday, Frankie decided to help me out by blocking one of the ways out of the dining room. For some reason, Marcus refused to jump over her and he was stuck between the cat and me, he decided he wasn't ready to take on the cat and chose me instead. This morning, going through the same process again, she decided to hide next to our poker table top box (we played poker over the weekend) and wait for the perfect moment when Marcus was going to walk past her. At that exact moment, she leaped from behind the box to scare Marcus by swatting him on the back. He decided that another trip around the table was not worth it and let me catch him once again. Frankie has made my mornings easy this week and hopefully that continues tomorrow.

In trying to think ahead to the holidays already we wanted to run some ideas past everyone. When Christmas rolls around Allison isn't really going to be in any shape to travel anywhere and we refuse to go to Topeka hospitals because she might go in to give birth and come out missing a leg. We are proposing having Christmas here in Gardner and while we're at it, combining both families, so on top of the typical get together at the Bettencourt's, my family will be joining in the festivities as well. Cats and dogs, living together, mass hysteria (bonus points to whoever knows what movie that's from). We want to hear your thoughts on whether or not this works for everyone.

Of course, we can't go through a post tonight with out talking about the historic election last night. While laying in bed last night waiting for Obama to give his acceptance speech, Brian Williams made an interesting comment that hadn't even crossed my mind. Paraphrasing, he basically said, any children born after today, will never know a world where an African-American has never been elected President in the United States. I though that certainly applied to the blog for tonight and I think it's wonderful that Abigail will hopefully never have to sit through an election night where the news people can never seem to get past the race issue and it's just another person running for president.

We fear Frankie has developed a drinking problem.
